Have you ever left a church service thinking, That message wasn’t fancy—but something changed in me?

That’s not human talent. That’s the Holy Spirit.

Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 2:4-5, “My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.”

We’ve seen this truth unfold again and again:

April was lost in addiction with a six-month-old baby in her arms when her cousin overdosed in front of her. She performed CPR for 17 minutes—crying out to God the entire time. When her cousin came back to life, she knew: God had just brought them both back from the edge. That moment sparked her own transformation, and today she leads others out of darkness.

Joshua Seal was serving a life sentence. He had already tried to end his own life. But God sent a prison officer who saw his worth and spoke truth over him. In that hopeless place, Joshua encountered the Holy Spirit, surrendered, and was radically changed. He now lives with purpose, ministering from behind bars to others who feel forgotten.

Tina grew up in trauma and rejection. Her heart was hardened, her faith nearly gone. But when she chose to forgive, the Holy Spirit rushed in and did what no therapist or sermon ever could—He healed her completely and gave her a calling.

None of these stories were crafted just in a pulpit—they were authored by the Spirit of God.

Friend, don’t expect perfection from the pastor. You already have access to perfect power.

“My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.” 1 Corinthians 2:4-5

What does it really mean to be a new creation in Christ?

2 Corinthians 5:17 says it plainly: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” This verse isn’t poetic symbolism. It’s a promise—a declaration of transformation that has been proven time and again in the lives of people who’ve met Jesus in their darkest places.

Lacy’s story is one of those. Trapped in addiction and facing the devastating possibility of losing her unborn daughter, she cried out to God. Doctors said her baby wouldn’t survive, but Lacy clung to prayer. Days later, her body was healed, her daughter was saved, and her faith was ignited. Today, she leads others toward the same hope she found.

Carlos was facing 11 years in prison. Guilt and shame crushed him—until a court-appointed attorney looked him in the eyes and told him he had a call on his life. Carlos surrendered everything to God in a jail cell. Sixty days later, he walked out—not just a free man, but a new creation. Today, he serves full-time in ministry, preaching the gospel that saved him.

Tracy, once lost in 42 years of addiction, now holds her daughter and granddaughter in her arms again. Her family was restored because she encountered a Savior who never gave up on her.

Friend, the old can be gone. The new can come. Jesus is still in the business of rewriting stories.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

Have you ever wanted to share your faith but felt overwhelmed? Sharing the gospel doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, it’s as simple as A, B, C:

A: Accept that you are a sinner.
We’re all born into sin and separated from God. No one can escape that on their own. Romans 3:23 reminds us that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” That’s why we need a Savior.

B: Believe in Jesus Christ.
Jesus didn’t come to condemn the world—He came to save it (John 3:17). He died for your sin, took your place, and made a way for you to be made right with God. When you believe in Him, you receive the gift of eternal life.

C: Confess with your mouth.
Romans 10:9 says, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Salvation comes through faith—and faith speaks.

Want to go deeper? Read Romans 10 and let God’s Word guide you. You can also explore stories of transformation like Lacy’s miracle or Carlos’ redemption to see what happens when people say yes to Jesus.

The gospel is simple. And someone needs to hear it—from you.

The beginning of a new year often comes with a lot of noise. New goals. New habits. New plans. New promises to “do better this time.”

But for many people—especially those walking through recovery or healing—January doesn’t feel exciting. It feels heavy. We carry the weight of what didn’t change last year, what we’re still wrestling with, and the quiet fear that starting over might just lead to more disappointment.

The good news is this: starting over with God is not about willpower or perfection. It’s about grace. Scripture reminds us again and again that renewal doesn’t come from trying harder—it comes from surrendering our hearts to the One who makes all things new.

Here are five Bible verses to anchor your heart as this new year begins.

1. A New Creation, Not a Better Version

2 Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

The world tells us the new year is about self-improvement. God tells us it’s about transformation. This verse doesn’t promise a slightly upgraded life—it promises something entirely new. In recovery, this truth matters deeply. You are not defined by your past, your relapse, or your worst season. In Christ, you are being made new and you are loved.

2. Mercy That Meets You Every Morning

Lamentations 3:22–23
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”

God doesn’t wait until January 1st to offer mercy. He offers it daily. If last year was marked by struggle, setbacks, or survival mode, this verse is a reminder that you didn’t miss your chance. God’s compassion is fresh today—right where you are.

3. A Clean Heart Comes from God, Not Effort

Psalm 51:10
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

Recovery often reveals how deeply we need God to do heart work we cannot do ourselves. This prayer isn’t about managing behavior—it’s about inviting God to restore us from the inside out. As a new year begins, this verse gives language to a surrendered heart asking God to rebuild what feels broken.

4. Letting Go Without Being Defined by the Past

Isaiah 43:18–19
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!”

Letting go doesn’t mean pretending the past didn’t happen. It means trusting God is not finished writing your story. Recovery teaches us that healing includes moving forward without dragging shame along with us. God is already at work—sometimes quietly—doing something new.

5. Surrendered Plans, Not Controlled Outcomes

Proverbs 16:3
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.”

The new year often comes with planners, schedules, and resolutions. Structure can be helpful, but only when it’s rooted in surrender. This verse reminds us that peace comes not from controlling outcomes, but from placing our plans in God’s hands and letting Him guide each step.

A Different Way to Start the New Year

Starting over with God doesn’t require a perfect plan or a strong resolve. It begins with humility, honesty, and trust. Whether you’re early in recovery, walking through healing, or simply weary from trying to hold everything together, this new year doesn’t ask you to become someone else.

If you’re looking for Scripture to guide your heart this January, let these verses remind you that new beginnings are not earned—they are given.

Anxiety doesn’t always announce itself. Sometimes it shows up quietly—tightening your chest, fogging your mind, and convincing you that you’re alone. But you’re not. God’s Word is full of promises that steady us when fear tries to take over.

Below are 8 Scripture verses that speak directly to anxious hearts. These aren’t just good thoughts—these are anchors of truth you can cling to, speak aloud, and pray through when you feel overwhelmed.

1. 1 Peter 5:7

“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”
→ He doesn’t just tolerate your worries—He welcomes them.

2. Isaiah 41:10

“Do not fear, for I am with you.”
→ God’s presence is your constant, even when peace feels distant.

3. Isaiah 26:3

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast.”
→ Steady peace comes when our eyes stay fixed on Him.

4. Joshua 1:9

“Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
→ Wherever fear follows, God goes before you.

5. John 14:27

“Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
→ Jesus didn’t promise a storm-free life, but He did promise His peace.

6. Psalm 94:19

“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.”
→ God’s comfort is personal—and powerful enough to lift what weighs you down.

7. Philippians 4:6

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation… present your requests to God.”
→ Prayer is the pathway to peace.

8. Proverbs 12:25

“Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.”
→ Speak kindness—even to yourself. It matters more than you know.

You’re not weak for feeling anxious. You’re human—and deeply loved by a God who promises to meet you right in the middle of it.

Nothing you have done is greater than what Jesus did on the cross. No sin, no failure, no mistake is too big for the power of His blood. Jesus’ sacrifice was not just for the righteous or those who appear to have it all together—it was for everyone. He gave His life for you, knowing all your struggles, flaws, and sins. Through His grace and love, you can begin finding freedom—not by your own efforts, but by His righteousness covering you completely.

We often carry guilt and shame, believing our past mistakes disqualify us from God’s love. But the truth is, the cross of Christ covers it all. The Bible reminds us of this beautiful promise in 1 John 1:9: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” This verse offers hope and a pathway to freedom. When you turn to Jesus, confess your sins, and accept His forgiveness, He restores you. He wipes the slate clean and clothes you in His righteousness.

Whether you’re struggling with addiction, broken relationships, or feelings of unworthiness, Jesus is the answer. He stands with open arms, ready to welcome you and guide you into a life of freedom and purpose.

Turning to Jesus doesn’t require perfection—it simply requires a willing heart. When you surrender your burdens to Him, you allow His grace to work in your life. Transformation happens not because of anything we do but because of what He has already done. His sacrifice was perfect, and it was enough.

Take a moment today to reflect on His love. Whatever you’re carrying, lay it at His feet. Know that there is no sin so dark that His light cannot shine through. His love is limitless, His forgiveness boundless, and His mercy unending.

Remember, you are never too far gone for His grace. He is faithful, just as He promised, and He desires to walk with you every step of the way. Turn to Him today—He is waiting for you.

The post What Ephesians 6:12 Teaches Us appeared first on Katie Hauck Ministries.

Knowing who you’re fighting against is half the battle. Your battle is not against your family member who said something hurtful, the old friend who betrayed your trust, the coworker who spreads rumors, the guy in the grocery store who cut you off, the landlord who won’t listen, your boss who constantly criticizes you, or even your ex who left deep wounds behind.

Your battle is spiritual, and your true enemy is the devil.

Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that “we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world…” The enemy wants you distracted. He wants to twist your hurt into bitterness. He thrives on division, resentment, and broken relationships. If he can get you to fight people, he can keep you from fighting him.

But do you know what your greatest weapon is? Prayer.

Pray for the people who hurt you.
Pray for the ones who took advantage of you.
Pray for the ones who walked away without apology.
Pray for those who misunderstood you, rejected you, or judged you.

It doesn’t excuse what they did—but it does shift your response. When you choose to let God fight the battle instead of reacting in your flesh, you’re acting from a place of strength and surrender. Knowing who you’re fighting against reminds you that the real enemy isn’t the person who hurt you—it’s the spiritual forces trying to keep you stuck in bitterness.

Jesus tells us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us (Matthew 5:44). Not because it’s easy, but because it’s powerful. It’s holy.

When you pray for someone, the shift may not happen in them—but it will happen in you. Prayer breaks chains. It releases the anger, the offense, the weight you’ve been carrying. It opens the door for healing and invites God to step in where your strength ends.

And remember this: you never truly know what battles your enemies might be facing. Wounded people often wound others. But people who know who the real enemy is? They forgive. They intercede. They choose healing. And they rise above.

Choose to be one of those people. Not because they deserve it, but because you’re finding freedom in the process.

Have you ever faced a trial so overwhelming it felt like there was no way through? In this broken world, seasons of pain, loss, and hardship are inevitable. But the God of Hope does not leave us to face them alone. In His infinite love and wisdom, He gave us the greatest gift to walk through life’s darkest moments—His Holy Spirit.

The God of Hope knew we would need strength, comfort, and peace to endure a world filled with fear, sickness, and sorrow. So in His compassion, He sent His Spirit to be our Comforter, our Counselor, and the source of hope when everything else feels uncertain.

Romans 15:13 declares this beautiful promise: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” That hope doesn’t come from our circumstances—it flows directly from the heart of God through His Spirit.

Life will always have storms—illness, broken relationships, anxiety, or grief—but the God of Hope offers something greater than momentary relief. He offers His presence. His peace. His power. When we place our trust in Him, He fills us with joy and peace that surpasses all understanding.

Trusting God doesn’t mean pretending everything is fine. It means bringing our real pain to a real God who is bigger than every burden. It means letting His Spirit strengthen us when we feel weak and overwhelmed.

If today feels heavy, I pray you’ll lean into the arms of the God of Hope. You are not alone. He is with you, for you, and working even now to bring beauty from brokenness. Let His hope overflow in your heart—and may you find rest in His unshakable promises.

When Moses encountered the presence of the Lord, something incredible happened—his face became radiant. The glory of God was so powerful, so overwhelming, that the people were afraid to come near him (Exodus 34:29–35). But as that glory began to fade, Moses hid his face behind a veil. Isn’t that just like us? We glow when we’re close to God, but when our spiritual walk starts to falter, we pull away. We hide. Yet even in those moments, the God of grace invites us to come near—not with shame, but with confidence and honesty.

Hebrews 4:16 reminds us of this beautiful truth: “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” When we feel weak, worn out, or full of regret, our natural instinct might be to withdraw. But God’s heart is never to condemn—His desire is to restore. The God of grace isn’t waiting to punish you; He’s waiting to embrace you.

We don’t need to pretend we’re perfect. We don’t need to veil our brokenness or hide behind a mask of spiritual strength. God already sees it all—and He loves you anyway. He wants you to come boldly, to confess, to lay your burdens down, and to find healing in His presence.

When we stop hiding and step into the light of His love, something powerful happens: we begin to shine again. Not because we’re strong, but because His glory reflects through us. His grace makes us radiant.

If you’ve been feeling distant from God lately, I get it—I’ve been there too. But you’re not too far gone. 1 John 1:9 is a powerful reminder that His forgiveness is always available. And if you’re struggling to open up, this post on confessing our faults might be just what you need to take that next step.

Don’t wait. Come boldly to the God of grace today. He’s not just waiting for you—He’s already reaching out.

We do not want others to see our sins or weaknesses, so we avoid them. Or worse, we stop spending time with the Lord because we feel guilty or convicted. Well, here is the good news. God is a God of grace, love, and forgiveness. He wants you to come to Him boldly and confess your failures. He loves you deeply and wants to set you free from condemnation. You are never too deep in your transgressions to turn back to Him. He will be waiting with arms open wide and His glory will make you shine

In Luke 10, Jesus tells the parable of the Good Samaritan—a story many of us have heard since childhood. A man is robbed, beaten, and left half-dead on the side of the road. Two men walk by—both seen as “godly” by society’s standards—and yet neither stops to help. Then a Samaritan comes along. Someone who, culturally, would have been considered an outsider or even an enemy by the Jewish people. But he’s the one who shows compassion. He goes out of his way, tends to the man’s wounds, and even pays for a place for him to recover. This is the kind of mercy and action that shows us what it truly means to love like Jesus.

Jesus finishes the story by saying, “Go and do likewise.”

The Bible tells us to love others, but let’s be honest—our own judgment can get in the way. Instead of offering compassion, we often make quiet assumptions about who’s worthy of kindness. That man on the corner? It’s easy to assume he brought homelessness on himself. The girl who had an abortion? Her story is rarely heard before opinions are formed. And when someone’s lifestyle or beliefs don’t align with ours, criticism too often comes faster than grace.

Yet Jesus didn’t say, “Love the people who agree with you.” He said in John 15:12, “Love each other as I have loved you.”

So how does He love us? He stays when we mess up. He offers forgiveness we didn’t earn and probably wouldn’t give ourselves. In the middle of our worst moments, He shows up with mercy instead of turning away. We fail Him more often than we’d like to admit—but somehow, His love doesn’t change.

Matthew 7:1 reminds us, “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.” God never gave us the job of deciding who deserves love. He simply told us to give it.

So maybe it’s time we stop walking past the wounded. Maybe it’s time we put down our judgment and pick up compassion. After all, Jesus didn’t just tell the story of the Good Samaritan to inspire us—He told it to show us how to live.

Let’s go and do likewise.

If you’re working through what it means to love others without judgment, this post on affirming God’s grace in recovery may offer a fresh perspective.

.
