The Lord blessed him abundantly and not only allowed him to eventually get out of prison but also to become one of the top leaders in Egypt. Joseph ended up forgiving his family and helping them survive during a terrible famine – giving them food, land, and a second chance. This is such a great story of trust, mercy, and grace. I encourage you to read the whole story, which is in Genesis 37-50.

Your Turn

Is there conflict in your family? Those three simple words are for you: Don’t give up. People are going to hurt you. They are going to disappoint you, dislike you, and accuse you.

I have three pieces of advice as you go through these difficult trials.

• First, do not become too defensive. Allow the Lord to fight the battles for you.
• Second, do not go to others with your problems. Hear me, I’m not saying don’t get help when you need it. Instead, I’m saying that the first place you go when things get hard shouldn’t be your gossip circle! Ranting about family matters can damage trust and communication inside the family. Go to the Lord first and foremost.
• Third, pray for the people who hurt you. Scripture tells us all battles are spiritual and you do not know what demons those people might be dealing with. Just like Joseph, do not become bitter, angry, or unforgiving. View these challenges as opportunities to grow spiritually and trust the Lord to deliver you.

But God’s Word tells a better story. A true one.

The truth is that you are not your past. You are not your mistakes. You are not what shame says about you. That said, in the middle of a battle with shame, it can be very difficult to remember that truth. Thankfully, God’s Word has a lot to say about this, and dwelling on these verses can help push back the heavy feelings of guilt and regret.

Here are 8 Bible verses that speak directly into the places where shame tries to settle. Let these verses break the silence and remind you who you really are in Christ.

1. Romans 8:1

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
→ Read that again, “no condemnation.” Shame may accuse, but Jesus has already cleared your name. Praise the Lord today for paying your debt!

2. Isaiah 54:4

“You will forget the shame of your youth and remember no more the reproach…”
→ God’s redemption covers even your earliest wounds.

3. Psalm 34:5

“Those who look to Him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.”
→ When your eyes are on Jesus, shame has no place. A beautiful thing happens when we move the focus off your past regrets and instead focusing more on the Lord to help shift your perspective.

4. 1 John 1:9

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful…and will cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
→ You are not just forgiven—you are cleansed. Have you ever heard the old, classic hymn “There is a Fountain?” As it says, all the spots and blemishes from your past are indeed washed away.

5. Psalm 103:12

“As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.”
→ When God forgives you, He separates you from your shame—completely.

6. Isaiah 61:7

“Instead of your shame you will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance…”
→ God doesn’t just remove your shame—He replaces it with honor.

7. Micah 7:19

“You will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.”
→ God buries your sin. Don’t go fishing. It is wonderful to realize that God isn’t holding on to your shame either.

8. 2 Corinthians 5:17

“If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
→ You are made new. Full stop. What does it mean to be a new creation in Christ? I go in to more detail about that here.

The Bible says:

This isn’t about religion. It’s not about having all the answers or fixing yourself first. It’s about relationship. It’s about knowing Jesus personally, and trusting Him to do what only He can: rescue, forgive, and restore.

What Does Salvation Mean?

Salvation rescues you from the power of sin and death. It means forgiveness. You are made new, and brought into a right relationship with God. It’s not something you can earn — it’s a gift. A gift Jesus made possible when He died on the cross and rose again, conquering death and offering eternal life to all who believe.

A Simple Prayer to Begin

You don’t need fancy words. Just a surrendered heart. If you’re ready to take that step, you can pray something like this:

Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God. I believe You died for my sins and rose again. I know I can’t fix my life on my own. I’m asking You to forgive me, change me, and lead me. I give You my life today. Thank You for saving me. Amen.

If you just prayed that — welcome to the family. Heaven is celebrating with you (Luke 15:7), and we are too.

Everything began to shift in a jail cell when he learned his father had died a year earlier, and he never even knew. On the 18th of the month, he remembered that his dad always read Proverbs 18. When he opened it, he sensed God speaking directly to him, asking, “Haven’t you had enough?” Tommy was angry and full of excuses, but God wasn’t offering condemnation. He was offering rescue.

God opened a door to True Purpose Ministries, where men who had walked similar roads challenged him to drop the masks and stop pretending. As he finally surrendered instead of running, his life began to change. His kids came back. He found opportunity, stability, and purpose. He faced serious court charges by trusting God instead of bargaining with Him, and walked away with freedom that made no earthly sense. He could see that God had been working even when he couldn’t recognize it.

But pride returned and one compromise led to a relapse. Within days, everything he idolized — transportation, comfort, relationships, job, access to his kids — disappeared. Broken again, Tommy reached out to Fountain of Hope Ministries, where he fully surrendered and allowed God to rebuild his life the right way. He faced new charges, turned himself in, and once again watched God step in with mercy he never could have earned.

Now Tommy sees love differently than he used to. Love isn’t about convenience, gifts, or covering up wrongdoing. Love is service, accountability, humility, and sacrifice. It looks like helping someone carry their burden, even when you’re tired too. It looks like correction that protects instead of condemns. It looks like putting others first because that’s what Jesus did for us.

Tommy’s testimony isn’t a highlight reel of mistakes; it’s a declaration that God can redeem any story. If you’re searching for peace, love, or hope, the answer isn’t to run — it’s to seek Jesus. There is no life so broken that He cannot restore it, and no heart so damaged that He cannot fill it. Tommy stands today as a reminder that it is never too late. God is patient. His love is real. Change can look like a lot of different things. Kids growing up and starting school. Children getting engaged or married. New chapters unfolding in our families that bring joy, but also stretch our hearts.

Change can happen in ministry, too. At Katie Hauck Ministries, God is opening new doors and exciting opportunities. I’ve been blessed to sit across from people who’ve shared powerful testimonies of how He has changed their lives. Every story reminds me that God is not done — He is still writing redemption.

And change can come in the most personal ways. Just recently, during a class inside the Blount County jail, one of the women gave her life to Christ. In that moment, her eternal story shifted. Can you imagine the celebration in Heaven? That kind of change never stops taking my breath away.

But if we’re honest, not all change feels exciting. Some seasons stretch us in uncomfortable ways. Some feel uncertain or even painful. Yet the thread that runs through every season is this: God is faithful, and He uses change to transform us.

The Bible reminds us:

• “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
• “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1)
• “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6)

These verses remind us that God is always at work. He doesn’t waste seasons. He uses every change — joyful or painful — to grow us, stretch us, and draw us closer to Him.

That’s why I created a simple printable reflection sheet called “My Season of Change.” It’s a way for you to pause and ask:

• What change am I walking through right now?
• Where do I see God at work in this change?
• What truth from Scripture do I need to hold onto in this season?

Sometimes just writing it down helps us see His hand in the middle of it all.
