How To Change Someone’s Whole Day With One Tiny Act

Have you ever walked through a really difficult season and needed some encouragement?  Considering the times we are living in, my guess is that your answer is “YES”.   I recently walked through one of the most challenging seasons of my life.  It seemed as though one thing was happening after another.  I experienced a death in my family, sickness, a car accident, and broken relationships.

One particular week my husband was traveling, our homeschool day seemed especially tough, and I’d received some unexpected news.  I broke down.  I cried out to the Lord and told Him I just didn’t know how much more I could take.  He promises His yoke is easy to bear, but it didn’t feel that way.  Later that same day I was at my son’s basketball game when he fell and broke his hip!  This created such a burden on my already busy schedule.  I felt as though life couldn’t get much worse.

I cried myself to sleep that night after begging God to give me something to keep me going.  He says I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, and I needed that strength!  The next morning, I was up early, in the freezing cold, loading five of my kids in the car and I look down at my dashboard and notice that my car had been filled with gas.  My oldest daughter, who had helped watch my younger kids the night before when I took my son to the hospital, had taken it to the gas station and filled it up.  Just to be kind!

I know it seems like I am an emotional person, but that is generally not true.  I probably hadn’t cried in months, but now I would cry for the second time in twenty-four hours.  I knew the Lord wanted me to see how great His love was for me.  He wanted me to remember that He was in those little details, the ones I had been overlooking.  He used my daughter to bless and strengthen me and it changed everything!

I want to encourage you today by reminding you that the Lord is with you, even during your most difficult times.  Try opening your eyes to notice the little ways He is caring for you.  Also, I want to urge you to listen to His voice.  If He puts on your heart to do something kind for someone, be bold and do it!

Buy someone that cup of coffee, tell that woman her hair looks nice, text that friend you’ve been thinking about, pray for that person on your heart.  If the Lord is inspiring you to do something, no matter how small it might seem, do it because you literally might be changing everything for someone who is hurting!

Now go let your light shine.
