Old Testament
The Old Testament covers about 4000 years of history but was written over approximately 1400 years by 27 different authors. It consists of 39 books. It was written on a variety of different surfaces like stone, wood, clay, papyrus, leather, and animal skins. Eventually some was written on paper. It is divided into 4 sections: the books of the law, historical books, wisdom literature, and the books of the prophets. It is not in chronological order, but many of the books were written simultaneously.
