Many Christians use the fish icon to symbolize their faith. Do you know how that first originated?
I can tell you, it had nothing to do with the miracle of the feeding of 5,000 and it wasn’t because Jesus liked to eat fish.
During the Roman Empire’s persecution of Christians, followers of Jesus needed a code to identify each other. One would draw half of the symbol, which literally could mean anything. If the other person was a Christian, they would finish drawing it!
I am thankful that today we live in a place where we can boldly speak about Christ without having to worry about being put to death for it.
