Voice of the Holy Spirit

God is so good! Check out what happened to me today…

I was visiting with my daughter at her house today and had this feeling that it was time to go home. We didn’t have any plans for the afternoon, so there was no rush, but in my spirit, I felt an urgency to leave. I got home and my husband was outside working at the barn. I said hello and chatted for a minute before heading inside. When I walked in the door, I walked into a room filled with smoke and flames. Someone had started boiling something on the stove, had forgotten about it, and a nearby towel had started on fire. Our smoke detectors failed to go off and almost everyone was outside so they wouldn’t have heard them anyway. Praise God I got there at the exact right time. A couple of minutes later and I’d be telling a different story.

I have no doubt that my urgency to leave my daughters was the prompting of the Holy Spirit. When you become a believer the Holy Spirit comes to live inside of you. His role is to give you power, revelation, and wisdom. He is alive today and speaking to every one of us. Our role is to know His voice.

Friends, if you don’t recognize the voice of the Holy Spirit, which is usually a still, small voice, then pray and ask God to help you come to know it. Study His attributes in Scripture. Sit in a quiet place. Listen intently.
