Where You Go…

In my Old Testament History class this week we studied Joshua, Judges, and Ruth. I’m not going to lie, it was a little intense but studying these books together and comparing the themes was something I hadn’t done before. It was beautiful.

My textbook put it this way, “Against the background of national irresponsibility and weak character Ruth shone as a bright example of purity, faith, and responsible living.” Ruth broke the tradition of her idolatrous people and chose loyalty to her mother-in-law. She left her home, her family, her friends, her religion, and her security to make the grueling journey to Bethlehem. In a time when the Israelites were being selfish, irresponsible, and unfaithful this Moabite woman exhibited character and strength. She dedicated her life to serving Naomi and ended up bringing hope to the entire world. God even counted her worthy of being in the lineage of Jesus Christ.

What an incredible story. Our world today doesn’t look much different spiritually than it did during the times of Judges. My desire is to be like Ruth – a loyal, faithful light shining in the darkness, spreading the love of Christ. I hope yours is too.
