Time of Grief – John 16:22

“Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.” John 16:22

If you are grieving today, I want to pray for you. Not with perfect words, but with the kind of honesty that comes from knowing how it feels to carry loss you didn’t ask for—and pain you can’t just explain away.

Grief comes in waves. Sometimes it knocks the wind out of you, sometimes it quietly lingers. And while people often mean well, their words don’t always help. But Jesus’ words? They do.

In John 16:22, Jesus acknowledged the pain. He said, “Now is your time of grief.” He didn’t dismiss it. He didn’t say “just have faith” or “get over it.” He said, I see you—and this is real. But He didn’t leave it there. He promised something deeper: “I will see you again… and no one will take away your joy.”

That promise isn’t just for eternity—it’s for today. Joy may not feel loud right now. It might not show up in the ways it used to. But Jesus can plant it quietly in the cracks of your broken heart. And that kind of joy? No one can take it.

We walk through hard things—addiction, shame, loss, and recovery. And grief touches all of those places. If you’re grieving a person, a dream, or even a version of life that didn’t turn out the way you hoped, you are not alone.

I may not know your story, but I know the One who does. And He promises joy is coming.

I’m praying that it finds you—even in the middle of the grief.

If you are grieving today, I want to pray for you.

“Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.” John 16:22
