Overcoming Childhood Abandonment: Tyler’s Story
If you’ve ever struggled with overcoming childhood abandonment, you’re not alone. Maybe someone walked out on you—physically or emotionally—and left you wondering if you’d ever be whole again. That kind of wound runs deep. Tyler knows exactly how that feels.
Growing up in a small Tennessee town, Tyler and his brothers faced abuse, poverty, and the heartbreak of losing their dad. By the time he was ten, addiction had already crept in, filling the empty space where love and connection should’ve been.
When abandonment shapes your early years, it can be hard to trust people—and even harder to trust God. Tyler had never opened a Bible until he found himself at True Purpose Ministries, desperate for something to change. What he found was more than help. He found healing.
Tyler shares how trauma from his childhood fueled his addiction, how his father’s absence left a painful void, and how he finally moved from rock bottom to restoration. But it was faith—real, raw, everyday faith—that became the turning point. That’s when things truly started to shift.
If you’re wrestling with abandonment, addiction, or just the weight of your past, there is hope. God is still in the business of healing broken hearts. Tyler’s story didn’t end in pain, and yours doesn’t have to either.
You are not too far gone. You are not alone. And you are loved.
