Qanna – The Jealous God

Qanna – The Jealous God

When we hear the word “jealousy,” we often think of insecurity or envy. But when God reveals Himself as Qanna—the Jealous God, His jealousy is not selfish or petty. Instead, it is a holy, protective love that refuses to share His people with anything that would harm them.

Just as a loving spouse desires faithfulness in marriage, God desires our full devotion. He knows that only He can satisfy our hearts, and anything that takes His place will ultimately lead us away from life and joy. Qanna is the God who passionately pursues His people.

Qanna in the Bible

The name Qanna is first revealed in Exodus 34:14, where God says, “Do not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.” This was not a sign of weakness but of God’s deep love and commitment to His people.

Throughout the Old Testament, Israel struggled with idolatry—turning to false gods and abandoning their covenant with Yahweh. Yet, God’s jealousy wasn’t about control—it was about love. He longed to protect them from sin’s destruction and bring them back into His perfect plan.

In the New Testament, we see this same passionate love in Jesus. In Mark 12:30, He commands, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” God wants our whole hearts, not just part of them.

What This Means for Us Today

Qanna reminds us that God will not settle for half-hearted devotion. He is not content to be just another part of our lives—He wants to be our everything.

If you’ve drifted or placed other things before God, know this: He is still pursuing you. His jealousy is not about control but about calling you into the fullness of life that only He can give.

A Prayer to Qanna

Qanna, You are a jealous God who loves me completely. Forgive me for the times I have placed other things before You. Help me to love You with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength. Thank You for pursuing me with Your perfect love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Return to Your First Love

God’s jealousy is a passionate, protective love that calls us into deeper relationship with Him. Give Him your whole heart—He is worthy.
