John 16
John 16 explains to us the role of the Holy Spirit. Here’s my summary…

He comes to convict the world of their sin. Notice that sin is singular, not plural. He is not convicting the world about their behavior, but about their separation from Christ. He is pulling them in and showing them that they have a Savior who deeply loves them and desires to be in a relationship with them.
He comes to convict the believer of their righteousness. He is not condemning them or making them feel bad. He is reminding them of who they are. When a person recognizes that they are a child of God – when they truly understand that they are the righteousness of Christ: forgiven, redeemed, loved, cherished, and set free – their behavior will line up with that truth!
