Overcoming an Abusive Past

I’m so excited to introduce my new friend Rainey, whose life story is a powerful testament to God’s unwavering faithfulness—even in the face of an abusive past. If you’ve ever wondered whether God will come through, Rainey’s journey will bring hope.

Rainey grew up in Minnesota and lost his father to cancer at just 12 years old. That loss, and the prayer he whispered—“whatever is best, Lord”—was the quiet beginning of his walk with God. His father had been a loving man when sober, but abusive when drinking, which left deep emotional wounds that would shape Rainey’s understanding of love and healing for years to come.

His faith grew quickly, and he threw himself into missions, ministry, and family. But distractions crept in. An inheritance pulled his attention, and slowly his relationship with God drifted. Yet even in the wilderness, God never let him go.

Today, Rainey is part of True Purpose Ministries and preparing to graduate from the program. His marriage has been restored, his children are doing well, and he’s walking in renewed faith.

His encouragement to others? Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and acknowledge Him in everything. God’s love is unconditional, His faithfulness constant.

If you feel like you’ve strayed, let Rainey’s story remind you: you are never too far gone. You are loved—and God is always ready to lead you home.
