The Step That Changes Everything: Celebrate Recovery Step 3

We’ve admitted we have a problem. We’ve acknowledged that we’re powerless to fix it on our own. But now, in Celebrate Recovery Step 3, we face the real turning point: surrender.

Step 3 says: We made a decision to turn our lives and our wills over to the care of God.
This is more than words. This is more than lip service. This is where we let go of control and trust God with everything—our past, our future, our mess, our dreams.

I know firsthand how scary surrender can feel. For a long time, I thought I had to hold it all together. But the truth is, my healing didn’t begin until I loosened my grip and let God lead.

One of my favorite scriptures that speaks into this step is Proverbs 3:5-6:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

That’s the heart of Step 3. It’s choosing faith over fear. It’s believing that God’s plan is better than our plan—even when we don’t see the full picture yet.

If you’re in a place where surrender feels hard, I want to remind you that God can be trusted. He doesn’t need you to be perfect—He just wants your yes. You can bring your whole heart to Him, and He will meet you there.
